Conversion

As I watched the thousands of people stream forward to make public professions of faith yesterday at the Billy Graham Crusade, I knew we were witnessing a marvelous work of God. But God's marvelous works are not only evident in crowds, they are also evident each time He moves in a heart and draws one person to Himself.

When I consider my life before Christ and my life after Christ, I realize what a miracle conversion truly is. I have also watched loved ones give their lives to the Lord, and each time it happens I am awakened to the amazing transformation that has just taken place.

The Bible says, "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new" (2 Corinthians 5:17). All things have become new indeed. This is a marvelous work of God!

What marvelous work of God have you witnessed lately?

There is a young man named Scott, who is the son of friends of ours. My husband and I have known him for seven years, since he was 10 years old. When we first met him, he was a joy to be with. He was in our sunday school class for two years. Despite the fact that his father was undergoing treatment for leukemia, he was a joyful person, fun to be around. He had a tender, loving heart. After his older brother died in a car accident, he became a very bitter young man. For the past five years, we have felt sorrow as we have seen him lash out at people, rebel against his parents, against God. It was a sad thing to see.

Recently, he joined the church. His life is turning around. He has taken an interest in becoming a chef, and if we eat in the restuarant where he is apprenticing, he will come out to say hello. On other occasions, when we saw him in public, he would avoid us. He is the helpful, kind, gentle boy we remember.

But more than that, God has brought him back to a place of fellowship with Him. He says that God has turned him around and healed the wounds that he received from his brother's death, and the bitterness he once had has been swallowed up in love. It is truly a miracle.

When the Lord reveals His Light, all the darkness is cast away. And a life of despair, addiction, anger, bitterness, and hopelessness is immediately renewed. It is a marvelous and amazing work to witness!

Since her teens, my sister has struggled with eating disorders and then alcoholism. At times I thought it could not get any worse, but usually she could put her life back on track or hold it together enough to keep functioning.

A year ago, the Lord allowed her to be consumed to a point where all she could do was cry out to Him. She had, by her own hands, destroyed all that was important to her, her career and her relationship with family and friends. It was at that point, the Lord performed a heart transplant. Immediately a life was transformed and she was made new again.

Thank you, Lord!

Oh Kim, that is a very encouraging story! Just when we think there's no hope, God moves in a heart. Thank you so much for sharing it with us!

Meredith, the reports of your sister's transformation have been an indescribable blessing. Isn't it a comfort to know that no matter how low we sink, God's love is deeper still?
