A Match Made In Heaven
Franklin Graham, who heads up Operation Christmas Child, visited our church last year and shared heartwarming stories about the shoeboxes they delivered to needy kids around the world. One touching story involved an orphaned boy. When the worker handed him a shoebox, he glumly rejected it and replied, "I don't want it. What I really want is not in that box."
The boy explained that his deepest desire was to have a Daddy and Mommy of his own. At the worker's encouragement, he finally accepted the shoebox. In it, he found the assorted toys and goodies along with a letter and a photo of the American couple who had packed it. Not just any couple, but a couple who could not conceive and were praying for a child. A correspondence ensued, and months later both the little boy's wish and the couple's prayers were answered as they welcomed him home as their adopted son.
Millions of shoeboxes sent.
Millions of waiting children.
One hopeful boy.
One praying couple.
One awesome God.
As I contemplated the wonder of this miracle, it dawned on me that this was not a unique story. Matches are made in heaven every day--perhaps not as dramatic as the orphan boy's--every time a child is welcomed into a family. Our Lord, immeasurably good and eternally wise, creates then places each child sovereignly where He may in order that they will bless and be blessed for His name's sake.
What marvelous work of God have you witnessed lately?

My family, my three brothers and I, are not particularly close. Since I became a Christian, we have strayed, and now we are all spread all over the place. I have longed for a close family for many, many years, as I have seen others be close to their brothers and sisters. While I'm still close to my parents, they do live seventeen hudred miles away from me, and one of my brothers is even further, in British Columbia.
I have been praying for about a year now that our family would somehow become closer. I got an e-mail the other day from my brother in B.C. telling me that he will be moving here to Ontario, to a city about two hours away. An answer to prayer! I spoke to my mother and father a few days later, and they confessed that if it weren't for my other brother who lives near to them, they would move here to Ontario, too. I told my mother: "Well I prayed for Chris to move here, and he is, now it's time to tackle the rest of you."
I'm amazed at this answer to prayer, because not only will it mean having family close by, it will be an opportunity to continue to share my faith with my brother and his children.
That story gave me shivers! Wow! Our God is an awesome God!
I have nothing to contribute off-hand, but just had to comment on that wonderful story. Still shivering! Blessings!
The thought of every detail of life has a purpose and meaning has been on my mind in recent weeks. I think about a homeschooling mom who sat by me in the OB/Gyn office six or seven years ago. She told me the Lord places her in situations where she introduces others to the idea of homeschooling. Though I said very little to her, the person that day ended up being me. It was the beginning of the transformation of an entire family, not just to homeschool, but to purposely train our children in the Lord and to draw on Him for strength and guidance.
Kim: What an exciting answer to prayer! I look forward to seeing all the great things the Lord will be doing through you and your family.
Meredith: Wow! What a neat story! We were also led to homeschool our kids through the testimony of another mom. We were placed in the same Bible study group. and looking back I've often marveled how the Lord brought us together at a crucial point in my life. Thanks for sharing.
Kim: Mrs. Muffin, :-)
